Helping those in need

The bible tells us to help others. To help the poor and to be charitable. The Lord will bless us for blessings others. This time of year is difficult for many in so many different ways. Some it's financially difficult, others are more lonely around the holidays, some have a bit of both, some may have lost a loved one and this is their first holiday season with them. With many different needs there are many different ways of giving.

The first is of course financially. That is the easiest of all ways to help, you can simply make a donation or write a check or give some cash then you move on. The others take more time and devotion to the needs of another.

A lonely person may just need someone to show they care enough to call them and check up on them once a week or so. Or maybe it will be a bit more like coming by and paying them a visit to just sit and chat for a spell. Maybe make them a meal or take them to dinner. Just something so they know they are loved.

If they are grieving then you may need to just let them cry on your shoulder from time to time. Talk about the loved one that has passed. Sit with them and keep them company. Pray with them.

There are so many ways to help others. The least of them is financially although believe me when your in the midst of financial trouble a gift of such is a tremendous blessings.

Which leads me to my next part of this discussion. When we give or help others in need are we to boast about it,gloat even, brag on it,make a point to tell the person you are helping "hey I did this for you." Sometimes when someone is struggling financially although they appreciate the help they don't need someone bragging what they did for you to everyone in sight.

Instead of being boastful about the help given to another, maybe try being more discreet is what is called for. The Lord will bless you so much for having a heart to help those in need. There is no need to point it out publicly unless it's being done for ones own gratification,if that's the case one must ask ones true intentions.

We all need help from time to time and likewise we all should be helping those in need. Together we can make this world a little better for others.

1 Corinthians 13:3-6
3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, 5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; 6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth
